Bean Origins

Nusa Coffee is cultivated throughout the Indonesian archipelago. These islands offer the perfect conditions for growing exceptional coffee:

  • Elevation: Our coffee plants thrive at elevations between 1,000 to 1,600 meters above sea level.
  • Soil: Rich volcanic soil provides essential nutrients for robust coffee plants.
  • Climate: Tropical climate with balanced rainfall and sunshine creates ideal growing conditions.
  • Varieties: We primarily grow Arabica & Robusta varieties, including Typica and Bourbon, adapted to the islands' unique environments.

Processing Methods

At Nusa Java Coffee, we employ various processing methods to bring out the best in our beans:

1. Washed Process

Our most common method, resulting in clean, bright flavors:

  • Coffee cherries are depulped to remove the outer skin
  • Beans are fermented to remove the mucilage
  • Thorough washing before careful drying

Flavor Profile: Crisp acidity, clear flavors, medium body

2. Natural Process

For a more fruit-forward profile:

  • Whole cherries are dried with the fruit intact
  • Slower drying process allows for flavor infusion
  • Beans are hulled after drying is complete

Flavor Profile: Fuller body, pronounced sweetness, complex fruit notes

3. Honey Process

A balance between washed and natural methods:

  • Outer skin is removed, but some mucilage remains
  • Beans are dried with partial mucilage still attached
  • Degree of mucilage left determines the 'honey' level (white, yellow, red, or black)

Flavor Profile: Balanced sweetness, mild acidity, silky body
